Thematic Strategies

Our interventions emphasize change in four priority areas in which we consider to be essential to transforming countries’ economies. While not limited to these themes, GGGI is maximizing the impact of its products and services in the following areas: Sustainable Energy; Water and Sanitation; Sustainable Landscapes; Green Cities.

In response to Member’s demands, 2015 will see GGGI increase its presence in 10 least developed and lower income Member countries across Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. Earmarked funding will also support additional operations in 7 other countries in the Middle East and North Africa regions.

Sustainable Energy

Energy powers economic growth and social development. Harnessing the potential of sustainable, clean energy and universal energy access represents a keystone to achieving inclusive green growth. GGGI works with Governments & private partners to transform energy markets, scale-up green investment, and achieve efficient use of energy resources across economic sectors.

Muharrem Kemal Askin

Principal-Policy Solutions (Energy)

Theory of Change: Sustainable Energy

Transforming energy systems and providing affordable, reliable and sustainable energy is a critical driver for green growth. Energy systems Worldwide remain reliant on polluting fossil-fuels that contribute to climate change and environmental degradation. At the same time, a fifth of the global population still lack basic access to electricity, forced instead to burn dirty fuels that impact health and prosperity.

GGGI works with emerging economies to make the energy transition a reality by ensuring green growth is at the heart of energy system planning, and by helping our partners to scale-up investment in clean, and energy efficient infrastructure. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, GGGI’s energy activities support the expanding access to affordable & sustainable energy services, improving sustainable energy generation mix and enhancing and integrating energy efficiency.
