GGGI Launches Four Publications to Support a Renewable Energy Transition in OECS Member States

Castries, Saint Lucia, 30 June 2023 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) aims to support the Eastern Caribbean region through the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)through creating an enabling environment leading to widespread adaptation of renewable energy. To support the efforts GGGI has launched four key sustainable energy publications. These publications provide clear guidance and evidence-based solutions to various audiences to support a sustainable energy transition in the region. The publications are as follows:

“GGGI works in the renewable energy space and supports implementation of the OECS Sustainable Energy Framework,” Dr. Kristin Deason, GGGI’s Caribbean Representative noted. “GGGI also works on the goals of the Eastern Caribbean Solar Challenge, assisting the OECS Commission in its commitment to taking decisive actions towards combating the effects of climate change and facilitating a clean energy transition in the region,” she added. Electricity Sector Overview – OECS Member States

The report seeks to facilitate collaboration and inform the development of support programs aimed at accelerating an energy transition in the Eastern Caribbean region. It provides a general overview of the electricity sector in OECS member states, including governance frameworks and major stakeholders, based on consultations conducted by GGGI.

Financing mechanisms for public, commercial, and domestic solar PV in the OECS Region

The report examines the available financing options for rooftop solar PV systems in the region as well as possible financing models which may enhance the financing environment and lead to greater adoption in the public, private and residential sectors.

Regulatory Guidelines on Interconnection of Customer-Owned Renewable Energy Facilities to the Grid

This document is the first in a series of regulatory guidelines being developed by GGGI for the OECS region and is aimed at informing electricity sector stakeholders regarding major considerations and best practices that can be used when developing regulatory frameworks for interconnection to the grid of customer-owned renewable energy facilities.

Regulatory Guidelines on the Procurement of Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities

This document represents the second set of regulatory guidelines being developed by GGGI and is aimed at informing electricity sector stakeholders on major considerations and key elements of different strategies of procurement of utility-scale renewable energy power generation facilities.

About GGGI’s work in the Caribbean region

The OECS is a Member of GGGI as a regional body. This membership allows GGGI to work in close partnership with the OECS Commission at the regional level, as well as directly with the governments of the 11 OECS member states at the national level. GGGI maintains an embedded staff presence at OECS headquarters in Saint Lucia and to date has delivered programs in partnership with the governments of Grenada, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Lucia.
