Togo Country Program Lead
Since 2021, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Togo Country Program supports the country’s efforts to transition to a green growth model.
Our work in Togo focuses on building institutional capacity, developing a strategic framework and pipeline of green projects to enhance the access to climate finance towards achieving the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets. Aligning with the GGGI 2030 Strategy, and more particularly the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Strategy, the Togo Country Program implements projects to achieve inclusive growth. Through this approach, GGGI is developing new collaborations and creating synergies with other government priorities to promote climate resilience and green growth in Togo. In close collaboration with the Government of Togo and other key partners, GGGI strives for a low-carbon, resilient world of strong, inclusive and sustainable growth.
GGGI Togo’s Program is implemented by a dedicated growing team of technical experts embedded within local and central governmental institutions. GGGI’s team provides timely and high-quality demand-driven technical and advisory assistance in line with Togo’s green growth ambitions and goals.
GGGI in Togo has achieved significant milestones across different sectors.
GGGI supported the National Designated Authority (NDA) of Togo to build institutional capacity, develop a strategic framework and develop pipeline projects to enhance access to climate finance with regards to achieve the NDC targets. Through these projects, GGGI supported the country to develop new partnerships and create synergies between green growth plans and other government priorities to promote climate resilience and sustainable development in Togo.
GGGI support has contributed to developing and validating the National Climate Finance Strategy which aims at strengthening policy frameworks, strategies, and institutional arrangements to mainstream green growth and climate action in economic and political planning and increasing climate finance mobilization. Furthermore, GGGI support has contributed to enabling two national institutions (one from the public sector and the other form the private sector) to start the accreditation process to the Green Climate Fund.
In addition, GGGI also supported institutional capacity building for implementation of a Low-carbon Emission Transport System to promote sustainable and environmental-friendly transport options.
GGGI’s support has also contributed to the development of bankable green projects to strengthen socioeconomic growth, policy frameworks, strategies, and institutional arrangements. These projects also support the country to mainstream inclusive green growth and climate action into economic and political planning and increasing climate finance mobilization in Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector. Furthermore, GGGI support has contributed to enabling collaborative environment and partnership development with the government of Togo.
Looking ahead, GGGI in Togo aims to continue supporting Togo’s efforts to transition to a low-carbon economy by reducing its CO2 emissions by half by 2030. In addition, GGGI shall continue to support efforts that aim to create green jobs, increase access to improved and sustainable sanitation, and contribute to the sustainable management of the country’s ecosystems and biodiversity.
GGGI’s impact in Togo includes:
– USD 1.2M Green Investment Commitments Mobilized
– 21 professional associations trained on GCF-funded activities (climate finance, green policy, GCF accreditation process)
– A new transport sector coordination mechanism validated
