Global Practice

Safeguard

At the heart of the inclusive green growth agenda are benefits to people and communities. Ensuring that no one is left behind in the shift towards a green economy is a sustainable development challenge that requires deliberate strategy and action throughout all stages in policy, program and project development. GGGI’s Sustainability, Gender and Safeguards program brings together national green growth plans, thematic strategies and innovative finance in contribution to poverty reduction (SDG 1), gender equality (SDG 5), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10) and works together with partners to support shared metrics for a just transition to inclusive green growth.
GGGI has put in place strategies and policies to implement its commitment to international standards for environmental and social sustainability to ensure that potential risks to people and planet are identified and minimized, and that opportunities for positive impacts are maximized.

Tackling the structural root causes of poverty, gender inequalities and social exclusion requires bold leadership and multi-sectoral policy solutions. GGGI supports government partners to engage broad stakeholders to develop inclusive green growth policies, which take into account how green growth planning and implementation efforts impact men, women, boys and girls differently. Through GGGI’s four core thematic areas, it offers policy solutions that create green jobs and improved access to basic and sustainable services such as water, energy, urban infrastructure and natural capital. This, in combination with innovative financial instruments and vehicles that are designed to promote gender equality, poverty reduction and inclusion, GGGI aims to bring affordable and clean technology solutions that improve people’s livelihoods and the environment.
