Innocent Kabenga

Innocent Kabenga is GGGI’s Country Representative in Togo, responsible for developing and leading the GGGI Togo Program.

Prior to joining GGGI, Innocent was a Senior Strategic Advisor to the Ministry of Natural Resources (MINIRENA) in Rwanda under the UNDP Capacity Strengthening Program. He focused on updating and harmonizing existing policies and strategies to the Rwandan Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy (GGCRS). He coordinated and organized the Inter-ministerial Committee meetings on Green Economy where cabinet ministers, NGOs, development partners met and discussed the progress on the implementation of the GGCRS. He was also involved in the Natural Capital Accounting and Wealth Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystems Services (WAVES).

Innocent has more than 10 years of program management including 9 years of regional and intercontinental experience in coordination, networking and organization of stakeholders’ involvement and participation. He spent six years managing Transboundary Water Resources Management Programs in East and West Africa.  He also worked in Ottawa, Canada for 2 years as a Program Officer.

He speaks five languages including French, English and Kiswahili. Innocent has interdisciplinary educational back ground with a Master’s Degree In Urban Planning and Environmental Management from University of Montreal, Canada, A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Economics from Brock University, Canada, an Advanced Diploma in Land Management and Valuation from Ardhi University, Tanzania and he completed all required PhD courses in Environmental Economics from Gothernburg University, Sweden.
