Mr. Fred Tuhairwe is the Project Associate, Solar Home Systems (SHS) Program, based in Mbarara, one of the secondary cities of Uganda. He joined GGGI in May 2018. Fred is responsible for implementation of the project aimed at accelerating consumer and market access to SHS in Mbarara. Fred brings on board experience in Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) systems and technologies.
Prior to joining GGGI, Fred worked as a technical officer for Uganda National Renewable Energy and Energy efficiency Alliance (UNREEEA). In this role, he supported the implementation of UNREEEA’s market development strategies for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency under programs like GIZ’s Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program (PREEEP), Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Program (RECP) and Bfz.
Fred worked as an Energy officer, with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral development (MEMD) of Uganda in the year 2015-2016, in this role he was responsible for monitoring government programs in the Renewable Energy Department. He also served as a Research Associate at the Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) and the Renewable Energy Business Incubator (REBI). During this period, he was much involved in research in Renewable Energy and Entrepreneurship development.
Fred also coordinated the Master of Science in Renewable Energy program at Makerere University in Kampala and as well served on the Electro technology Standards Committee (TC6) of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), a statutory body responsible for standards development in conformity with ISO.
Fred holds a M.Sc. in Renewable Energy and a B.Sc. in Physics and Math, both from Makerere University, with several other specialised.
