George Asiimwe

George is GGGI Lao PDR’s Senior Officer, Waste Management and leads the country office’s Waste Unit. In this role, George is charged with strategic direction, technical delivery, stakeholder engagement, and managerial and operational oversight of the unit. His work involves the delivery of circular economy solutions for the Government of Lao PDR, spanning circular economy policy, sectoral investment mobilization, and high impact infrastructure and projects in Vientiane Capital and other secondary cities of Lao PDR.

Prior to joining GGGI’s country office in Lao PDR, George worked as the Senior Urban Development Officer for GGGI Uganda where he oversaw the greening of the country’s third National Development Plan; the development of the National Urban Policy; the development and design of circular economy investments in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area; and the comprehensive physical planning of four secondary cities namely Arua, Jinja, Gulu and Mbarara City. He has also worked for Oxfam, Eastern and Southern Africa Small Scale Farmers’ Forum (ESAFF), African Union’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Non-State Actors Coalition (CNC), and Makerere University. He holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Management from Makerere University and a Master’s in Urban Development from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Addis Ababa University.
