Abidjan Côte d’Ivoire, December 19, 2023 – GGGI Côte d’Ivoire held a 2-hour long validation workshop for the establishment of the sustainable forests and landscapes program as a follow up to its consultation workshop held on November 13th.

This event, a crucial component of the ABIDJAN LEGACY PROGRAM in which GGGI pledge to secure 100 M USD in term of resource mobilization, gathered participants from the government, private sector, and development partners to discuss and validate previously discussed elements related to GGGI’s investment services in forestry & landscape management.

It started with a presentation by GGGI, sharing the results of the previous consultation workshop and highlighting the organization’s role as a green investment service provider while outlining challenges, priorities, and intervention opportunities. GGGI presented the objectives and main results expected from this study and highlighted the organization’s role as a green investment service provider and outlined challenges, priorities, and intervention opportunities. The study’s conclusions led to five recommendations, emphasizing the need for coordination among stakeholders in forest and landscape management, the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices, and investments in innovative technologies for sustainable management.

“We are at an important phase of the consultation process in the drafting of a program document for GGGI. Each workshop helps GGGI in its mission of contributing to sustainable development in Cote d’Ivoire, and we are looking forward to pursuing our interactions for the successful advent of this program.” said Olola Vieyra, Country Representative at GGGI Cote d’Ivoire.

The workshop was highly participative and registered recommendations from the participants, including the suggestion of additional projects in which GGGI could contribute while emphasizing the need to invest in projects in favor of conflict resolution within communities, carbon markets projects, and Nature based solutions.

The Project is funded under Korean Green New Deal Fund to develop an analysis report on the current landscape, the forest, and situation of agroforestry in Ivory Coast. The report was presented to stakeholders through this workshop and the conclusion is to send the report to stakeholders for their endorsement, disseminated the endorsed version and develop a pipeline of forestry and landscape to be submitted to donors for financing.
