Mohammad Ali Shaikh

As the Deputy Country Representative and Program Lead in Vanuatu, Muhammad Ali Shaikh has carved out a distinguished international career with more than 24 years of experience in a wide range of fields, primarily focusing on water and environmental engineering. Before his current role, he worked for 7 years with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Uganda and Seoul, where he gained extensive experience in procurement and contract management related to diverse sectors such as Urban Development, Transportation, Water, Energy, and Disaster Response and Management.

Throughout his career, Mr. Shaikh has demonstrated his expertise in Climate Change Risk and Vulnerability Assessment, Sustainable Rural Development, Poverty Alleviation, and institutional reform projects in various countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Lebanon, Syria, South Sudan, South Korea, Uganda and Vanuatu. He has a distinct specialty in water and waste infrastructure.

Before joining GGGI, he lent his skills to the Asian Development Bank as a full-time Staff Consultant, where he worked on projects involving urban and disaster risk management, including water, wastewater, solid waste management, and road construction.

Academically, Mr. Shaikh is a civil engineer and holds a Master’s Degree in water and environmental engineering from the University of Surrey, Guildford, United Kingdom. He also holds various professional certifications from the London School of Economics and Cranfield University UK in public policy analysis, water resource management and engineering in emergencies.
