Republic of Korea and GGGI Sign MOU for USD 13.5 million to accelerate green growth

Seoul, Korea, March 25, 2024 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Green Growth Cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The MOU reinforces the Republic of Korea and GGGI’s mutual goal of promoting sustainable development of developing and emerging countries. The MOU was signed by H.E. Kang Insun, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, and Dr. Frank Rijsberman, Director-General of GGGI. Under this MOU, Republic of Korea will grant USD 13.5 million as core contributions to GGGI in 2024, an increase from USD 12 million in 2023 and USD 10 million in 2022 

 

At the signing ceremony Vice Minister Kang Insun said, It is my sincere hope that the GGGI will continue to strengthen collaboration with the Korean government in our common endeavor for a more sustainable future. I trust the GGGI will take on even more ambitious role in promoting sustainable and inclusive growth. 

 

Director-General Frank Rijsberman thanked the Vice Minister and the Government of the Republic of Korea for their strong support for the organization and its mission for green growth. “The Republic of Korea has been a significant contributor to green growth initiatives with GGGI in many of its developing Member States. We are pleased to continue our strong collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide policy advice, green growth knowledge transfer, and green investments, Dr. Frank Rijsberman said. 

 

As part of the ceremony, Vice Minister Insun Kang also honored Ms. Jae Eun Ahn, Senior Strategy Officer at GGGI, with a Certificate of Merit presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the ROK, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the diplomatic activities of the Republic of Korea.I am deeply honored to receive this Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This recognition, while addressed to me, truly belongs to the entire team at GGGI, whose collective efforts and dedication toward green growth and sustainable development make our work meaningful.

The Republic of Korea is the host country of GGGI, and its government has been a strong supporter of the organization since its inception as an intergovernmental organization in 2012.
