PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) — The Opening ceremony of the National Council on Green Growth (NCGG) and the General Secretariat for Green Growth (GSGG) was officially held Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister at the Peace Palace.

Cambodia had signed an agreement with 16 other countries to set up the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

The main benefits of joining the GGGI is to move Cambodia towards a greener economy which focuses on effectively applying natural resources, green jobs, green tech, green finance, green credit, and green investment.

The National Council for Green Growth would be key a response to the UN’s Green Economics aimed at environmental protection, economic development, poverty reduction which were approved in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 20-22, 2012.

Cambodia’s minister meeting in Early March of this year has adopted a national policy and strategic plans of the Green Growth policy for 2013 to 2030.

The country has also adopted several legal plans for green development including a Green Growth Road-map, memorandums of cooperation with Korea’s Global Green Growth Institute, the conduction of NCGG and GSGG on green growth policies, and the agreement on the establishment of Cambodia’s membership in the GGGI.

The national policy, which was compiled by the ministry of environment, will balance economic development, environment, society, culture and the maintainability of natural resources to improve people’s health and living conditions with the peaceful cooperation between Green Growth and the national policy.
