GGGI Uzbekistan Celebrates 20 Climate-Savvy Graduates from its Greenhouse Course!

Nukus, Uzbekistan, December 19, 2023 – GGGI Uzbekistan awarded certificates to 20 Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) specialists who have successfully completed the “Greenhouses and drip irrigation adapted to climate change” course on December 20The course was developed by GGGI and the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Karakalpakstan (MEPR RK), with the technical support of GGGI’s KOICA-funded Green Rehabilitation Investment Project for Karakalpakstan Republic to address impacts of the Aral Sea crisis’.  

Twenty selected participants from Bozataw, Chimbay, Karauzyak, and Kegeyli districts took a course prepared by the GGGI team with the support of the Nukus Monocenter.  

 

The module consists of theoretical (32%) and practical (68%) classes, including the following topics: climate change in the Aral Sea region, types of greenhouses and their significance and economic impact, women‘s problems and opportunities in greenhouse farming, tillage, seed transplantation, and watering, methods of growing berries and citrus fruits, weed control, biological pest control, and drip irrigation.

Currently, with the support of the MEPR RK and the khokimiyats of Bozataw, Chimbay, Karauzyak, and Kegeyli districts, work is underway to provide State subsidies for the creation of greenhouses for the 20 graduates of the course. 

 

Given the great interest in this course among the population of the above-mentioned districts, GGGI, together with MEPR RK and the Nukus Monocenter, plans to proceed with the course implementation to train more specialists on climate-smart greenhouses and drip irrigation!
