GGGI takes part in the Jeju Forum 2019

On May 29, Director of Governance, Keeyong Chung Esq., participated in the Jeju Forum 2019, as one of the panelists of a session titled “Nexus of ‘Peace and Development’ in the Context of Asia-Pacific Region: Donors’ and Partner’s Perspectives,” which was jointly organized by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)and Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC). The session discussed the role of official development assistance (ODA), pledged by the Republic of Korea and Australia for peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and explored possible avenues for cooperation, based on the discussion on the nexus of ‘peace and development’. In addition, various examples of ODA projects have been presented, particularly addressing the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s example on peacebuilding and conflict resolution, linking peace and development initiatives.

During the session, Director Chung said that we must consider climate change as the threat multiplier, which may trigger violent conflict at the regional and global scale. Director Chung also emphasized the importance of bilateral collaboration between countries and multilateral institutions, like GGGI, to assist developing countries to build capacity on climate change and other adverse effects of environmental degradation, in addition to current ODA channels.

During the Jeju Forum, GGGI had meetings with the Vice President of KOICA and the President of KAIDEC, to identify opportunities to maximize possible collaboration on projects in areas, including green growth.
