Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, November 13, 2023 – GGGI Cote d’Ivoire Office organized a consultation workshop as part of its initiatives, focusing on developing an analysis report on the current landscape, forest, and agroforestry situation in Cote d’Ivoire. This event, a crucial component of the Abidjan Legacy Program, aimed to combat deforestation by mobilizing 100 million USD in climate finance resources. Participants from the government, private sector, and development partners gathered to discuss key elements, including GGGI’s investment services in forestry & landscape management, thematic bonds, carbon pricing, debt-for-nature swaps, as well as the preliminary results of the field study and ongoing actions.

GGGI presented the objectives and main results expected from this study and highlighted the organization’s role as a green investment service provider and outlined challenges, priorities, and intervention opportunities. The study’s conclusion led to five recommendations, emphasizing the need for coordination among stakeholders in forest and landscape management, the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices, and investments in innovative technologies for sustainable management.

The subsequent workshop session engaged participants in identifying and assessing ongoing projects related to sustainable forests and landscapes. Priority rankings were assigned based on five different mitigation activities, with a consensus emerging that elements of reforestation, including the restoration of degraded forests and peri-urban/urban reforestation, should be top priorities. The workshop served as a valuable platform for fostering collaboration and aligning efforts toward sustainable forest and landscape management in Côte d’Ivoire.
