On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, the Touba local coordination committee for the plastic waste management project appointed communication sub-committee members for the Behavior Change & Communication Campaign. The event offered the opportunity for local actors to become informed on the project progress status.
The ceremony was chaired by sub-prefect deputy of Ndame district with opening remarks to remind to participants of COVID 19 restrictions which limited numbers of attendees on site with strong respect to social distancing measures in line with GGGI guidelines. It is in this context an online platform was created in order increase attendance among other local coordination members involved with decentralized public services.
The waste economy chief service Pod estelle Ndour expressed their interest in GGGI as a Partner for this component in Touba following an MoU which provided concrete expression to their partnership. GGGI Senegal country representative Mr Romain BRILLIE delivered a message of ongoing support for three (03) identified municipalities to be funded by Grand Duchy of Luxembourg through the plastic wastewater management & electronic waste management project in Senegal secondaries cities. He invited local actors to play a key role in the upcoming communication and behavior change campaign. The national technical committee chairman representative, M. Mathioro Fall, Mayor of Niakhar district, also gave an allocution as the designated member from the Senegal mayors association, mentioning this challenging component and GGGI and UCG’s work to offer an integrated solution to conduct a new paradigm in this district.
The session continued with the project overview presented by Alé Badara Sy, GGGI project management coordinator, highlighting the progress with the commitment chart signed by local actors. A feasibility study shall be conducted with key findings on valorization options and a training plan will be given with a project demo.
