GGGI and Viet Nam Sign MoU to Accelerate Green Growth

SEOUL – September 06, 2017 – H.E Nguyen Chi Dung, Minister of Planning and Investment, Viet Nam and Dr. Frank Rijsberman, Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding at GGGI Headquarters in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The MoU further strengthens the partnership between GGGI and MPI, and formalizes a framework of cooperation to promote programs as well as joint activities on green growth in Viet Nam. This will include a range of areas including working with Viet Nam on national and local level green growth planning; green growth capacity building and knowledge sharing; fostering green growth policy options and the implementation of Viet Nam’s Green Growth Strategy.

“GGGI is very encouraged to support Viet Nam to develop its fast growing economy in a way that is environmentally sustainable, and provides new, greener opportunities that benefit all Vietnamese,” said Dr. Frank Rijsberman.

GGGI, together with MPI, have developed the Investment Guidelines for Green Growth in Viet Nam to provide a methodology and tools for ministries and provinces to mainstream green growth into all public-sector financing decisions. This work has also been used to mainstream green growth into Viet Nam’s five-year socio economic development plan (SEDP 2016-2020).

Last year, GGGI and MPI signed the 5 year Viet Nam Country Planning Framework (CPF) which guides collaborative work on mainstreaming green growth objectives into Viet Nam’s socio-economics development strategy and plans, strengthening green growth coordination, and increasing financing for green growth.

H.E Nguyen Chi Dung noted Viet Nam’s appreciation for the support GGGI provides, and proposed continued collaboration on raising green growth awareness; integrating green growth into the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs); further mobilizing the private resources for Viet Nam green growth implementation as well as expanding GGGI activities in provinces, especially in the Mekong Delta.

Through the MoU, GGGI and MPI have further committed to work together with the Viet Nam Government to formulate and implement green growth plans in Viet Nam.
