Workshop on Climate Finance Access for the Agriculture Sector in Ghana held on 10th-11th May 2023

Accra, Ghana on 10th-11th May 2023 – A two-day workshop on Climate Finance Access for the Agriculture sector is being hosted to raise awareness and facilitate discussions on how the agriculture sector can access climate finance and implement climate-resilient practices.

The Sustainable Development Goals Advisory Unit of the President’s Office joins forces with The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to organize the workshop on ‘Reinforcement of key agricultural national institutions’ capacity to have access to climate finance.’ The workshop aims to enhance the understanding of the requirements, tools, processes, and essential concepts of climate finance, and in particular the Green Climate Finance (GCF). “The SDGs provide a useful framework for putting our world on a sustainable pathway and creating a safer, resilient, and prosperous society for current and future generations.” As reiterated by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana.

Climate change poses significant threats to the agricultural sector, hence access to climate finance is essential to enable the sector to adapt to the impacts of climate change and reduce its carbon footprint. The workshop provides an opportunity for experts in the field to share their experiences and knowledge and contribute to building the capacity of Line Ministries concerned with agricultural and food transformation in the country. Jointly, organized by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Ghana, the workshop will:

► Enhance the capacity and skills of the relevant Line Ministries: by providing them with knowledge and tools that will enable them to translate Ghana’s needs to project concept notes and be able to access suitable climate finance in the agriculture sector. The training will enhance the understanding of requirements and essential concepts of climate finance.

► Target institutions: SDG Advisory Unit at the President’s Office, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Climate change related agencies, Agricultural Development Bank, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Cocoa research institute of Ghana, and any other relevant key institution.

‘GGGI is honored to have collaborated with the SDG Advisory Unit on this important event, and we hope that this workshop helps bridge the gap between the finance and agricultural sectors and stimulates new partnerships and initiatives to increase access to climate finance for the agriculture sector said Dr. Malle Fofana, the GGGI Head and Regional Director for Africa.’
