WHO WE ARE

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.

Our History

Since its establishment as an international organization at the RIO+20 Conference in 2012, GGGI’s membership has grown from 18 founding signatories to 50 Members and 29 Partner States at the end of 2024. GGGI draws upon the lessons learnt from this cross-regional pool of green growth experiences to pursue the transformative green growth agenda alongside its Members and Partners.

Mission Vission

Our Vision

A low-carbon, resilient world of strong, inclusive, innovative, and sustainable growth.

Our Mission

A global transition toward a model of green growth. While this is differentiated at the country level, at its core are strategies that simultaneously achieve poverty reduction, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

Our Values

Five core values – Integrity, Transformational, Inclusive, Boldness, and Excellence – provide the guiding framework for the way we work. We continually engage our people to uphold our values, to embed an organizational culture that is innovative, collaborative and focused on delivering results against our mission as “One GGGI”.

Our Delivery Model

GGGI has a unique in-country presence and prominent role as an independent, trusted advisor and strategic development partner embedded in Member and partner governments. This special arrangement or positioning enables GGGI to serve the role of an enabler and facilitator, providing policy advice and technical support in the development of green growth plans, policies and regulations, mobilization of green investments, implementation of green growth projects, and development of sub-national, national, regional capacities and knowledge.

GGGI Strategy 2030: Update for 2026-2030

Adopted by its Council and Assembly, GGGI’s Strategy 2030 outlines a clear vision for systemic transformation toward low-carbon, inclusive, resilient green growth. It provides a unifying framework for GGGI’s work, enabling Member States to achieve their climate and development objectives, including their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This update for the period 2026–2030, is informed by the Mid-term Evaluation of Strategy 2030 (MTE) completed in mid-2025. The MTE confirmed strong progress — including growth in membership, financing, and delivery on outcome targets — but also underscored the need for sharper focus, simplified priorities, and stronger institutional capabilities to deliver greater impact through 2030.

The strategy update is enriched by a thorough analysis of global trends, and consultations with GGGI Members and Staff, reaffirming the organization’s long-term vision. It reaffirms priorities, strengthens delivery mechanisms, and enhances alignment with the evolving needs of Member States and global sustainable development priorities.

This update ensures continuity with the original Strategy 2030 while adapting GGGI’s role to a rapidly changing global landscape. The update aims to ensure GGGI remains efficient and effective in a shifting global context which affects evolving GGGI Member needs.

Value Chain

GGGI’s systematic value chain-based model spans diagnosis & assessment, planning and implementation stages of green growth delivery. By linking policy and implementation along the value chain, GGGI supports its Member States to develop and implement green growth plans and strategies, translated into green investment plans and financing vehicles aligned with national priorities, and supported by sharing of knowledge and best practices. Importantly, this culminates in the design, financing and implementation of green growth projects.

Each component is accompanied by a systematic appraisal process that captures the learning and application of experience and knowledge from programs and projects and ensures the robustness of GGGI’s advice and assistance.

GGGI’s Six Key Priorities and Four Themes

The update for 2026–2030 has streamlined Strategy 2030’s architecture to focus on six Key Priorities that align with GGGI’s vision of a low-carbon, resilient world of inclusive and sustainable growth. These Key Priorities reorganize elements from the original strategy to enhance clarity and effectiveness in achieving GGGI’s Strategic Outcomes (SOs).

The six Key Priorities are:

1. Climate and Green Growth Policy Frameworks Strengthened;
2. Sustainable and Innovative Finance Mobilized;
3. Institutional and Human Capacity Enhanced;
4. Green Technologies and Solutions Deployed;
5. Climate and Green Growth Thought Leadership Advanced;
6. Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Advanced.

Additionally, four Themes guide GGGI’s work in country, addressing systemic change needed to deliver green growth: Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions; Adaptive, Resilient Landscapes and Oceans; Sustainable Agri-Food Systems; Green, Resilient and Circular Cities and Infrastructure.

These themes enable alignment with Member needs while supporting agile responses to emerging Key Priorities.
