Training Workshop on Green Growth in Vientiane, Lao PDR

Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR: On 15th September 2021, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Lao PDR team together with the Public Works and Transport Research Institute (PTRI), and Department of Planning and Investment of Vientiane Capital co-hosted the ‘Training Workshop on Green Growth” in Vientiane Capital as part of the activities under the project on Wastewater and Solid Waste Treatment Capacity Building Project for City Environment Implementation in Lao PDR with funding support from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The workshop aimed at providing the basic knowledge on green growth, introducing the Lao PDR National Green Growth Strategy and the Green Growth Planning Manual to Vientiane City stakeholders in order to enhance their capacity as the preparation to the development of Green City Action Plan for Vientiane Capital.

The workshop was chaired by the Mr. Thanongsin Sengphavong, Deputy Director General of Vientiane Capital Department of Planning and Investment (DPI), and co-chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aphisayadeth INSISIENGMAY, Deputy Director General of Public Works and Transport Research Institution (PTRI), and Mr. Rowan Fraser, Country Representative of Global Green Growth Institute Lao PDR. The workshop attended by 27 participants out of which 5 participants are females. Among the participants, 5 participants from Central government, 18 participants from Vientiane capital, and GGGI staff.

The chairs and participants from Vientiane Stakeholders expressed their strong support to development of Green City Action Plan for Vientiane Capital and acknowledged that Green Growth is a key for the City to achieve its goal and vision of becoming a green, livable, attractive city as well as to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and eradiate from least developed country 2030.
