Lomé, Togo, February 28, 2025 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)   in collaboration with the Togolese Government have launched two projects that will work to develop and improve socio-economic infrastructure, including education and health infrastructure, as well as water supply and land irrigation facilities, and support sustainable forest resource management in Togo.  

Funded by Korea Forest Service (KFS) at a tune of USD2.7 million, the “Strengthening the resilience of vulnerable populations to climate change through sustainable forest management”  project will work to assist vulnerable populations by promoting sustainable forest management and improving access to essential infrastructure including water supply facilities, establishing irrigation facilities to improve agriculture productive and strengthen the resilience of farmers and the construction of school, and health infrastructures to improve the wellbeing of the population. The second project, “Development of socio-economic infrastructure to support rural communities in Togo” will contribute to expanding Togo’s forest cover by planting 2,000 hectares of shea trees. The project is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of the Republic of Korea   and has a total budget of USD 3.7 million. By supporting these initiatives, the Togolese government continues to demonstrate its commitment to building a resilient economy that creates opportunities for rural communities. Both projects were officially launched on February 28, 2025, in Togo. 

“These projects (…) are part of a strategic vision aligned with the national priorities outlined in Togo’s 2020-2025 Roadmap. They also reflect our international commitments to combat climate change and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Konlani Dindiogue, Director of Cabinet, speaking on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Village Hydraulics, and Rural Development. 

Moon Dongkyu, Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Korea in Ghana, reminds “In the past, the Korean government made significant efforts in reforestation, improving agricultural infrastructure, introducing new seed varieties, and increasing income in farming communities. These efforts laid the foundation for Korea’s economic development.” He believes these projects will serve as meaningful steps toward Togo’s sustainable growth, just as similar efforts did for Korea. 

Dr. Omar Diouf, GGGI Country Lead for Togo reassured: “GGGI will continue to support the Togolese government, local authorities, decentralized technical services, civil society organizations, and NGOs to enhance collective climate action, which is essential for the successful implementation of these initiatives.” 

These projects, which will both be implemented over a period of 36 months align with GGGI’s broader vision of promoting green growth through various initiatives.

Lomé, Togo, 28 février 2025 – L’Institut Mondial pour la Croissance Verte (GGGI), en collaboration avec le Gouvernement Togolais, a lancé deux projets visant à développer et améliorer les infrastructures socio-économiques, y compris les infrastructures éducatives et sanitaires, ainsi que les installations de points d’approvisionnement en eau et d’irrigation des sols, ceci en soutenant la gestion durable des ressources forestières au Togo. 

Financé par le Service Forestier Coréen (KFS) à hauteur de 2,7 millions de dollars, le projet «Renforcement de la résilience des populations vulnérables au changement climatique grâce à une gestion durable des ressources forestières» a pour but d’assister les populations vulnérables en favorisant la gestion durable des forêts et en améliorant l’accès aux infrastructures essentielles, notamment les installations d’approvisionnement en eau, la mise en place de systèmes d’irrigation pour accroître la productivité agricole et renforcer la résilience des agriculteurs, ainsi que la construction d’infrastructures scolaires et sanitaires pour améliorer le bien-être des populations.   

Le second projet, « Développement des infrastructures socio-économiques pour soutenir les communautés rurales au Togo»,  va contribuer à l’expansion du couvert forestier du pays par la plantation de 2 000 hectares d’arbres à karité. C’est un projet financé par le ministère de l’Agriculture, de l’Alimentation et des Affaires rurales (MAFRA) de la République de Corée et il dispose d’un budget total de 3,7 millions de dollars.  Le Gouvernement Togolais, en soutenant ces initiatives, continue de démontrer son engagement en faveur d’une économie résiliente, créant des opportunités pour les communautés rurales. Les deux projets ont été officiellement lancés le 28 février 2025 au Togo. 

« Ces projets (…) s’inscrivent dans une vision stratégique alignée sur les priorités nationales définies dans la Feuille de Route Gouvernementale 2020-2025 du Togo. Ils reflètent également nos engagements internationaux en matière de lutte contre le changement climatique et de réalisation des Objectifs de Développement Durable », a déclaré Konlani Dindiogue, Directeur de Cabinet, s’exprimant au nom du Ministre de l’Agriculture, de l’Hydraulique Villageoise et du Développement Rural. 

Moon Dongkyu, Ministre-Conseiller à l’Ambassade de Corée au Ghana, a rappelé : « Par le passé, le gouvernement coréen a déployé des efforts considérables en matière de reforestation, d’amélioration des infrastructures agricoles, d’introduction de nouvelles variétés de semences et d’augmentation des revenus des communautés agricoles. Ces efforts ont jeté les bases du développement économique de la Corée. » Il est certain que ces projets constitueront des étapes significatives vers une croissance durable au Togo, à l’image des initiatives qui ont contribué au développement de la Corée. 

Dr. Omar Diouf, Représentant Pays de GGGI pour le Togo, a rassuré : « GGGI s’engagera aux cotés de l’État togolais, des collectivités territoriales, des Services techniques déconcentrés, du collège des associations, des ONG, pour renforcer l’action collective, nécessaire pour la mise en œuvre réussie de ces initiatives. » 

Ces projets, qui seront tous deux mis en œuvre sur une période de 36 mois, s’inscrivent dans la vision globale du GGGI visant à promouvoir la croissance verte à travers diverses initiatives.
