Tackling the energy sector

The Global Green Growth Institute participated in the Sustainable Investment Forum North America during New York Climate Week.  On September 26, GGGI’s Director-General, Dr. Frank Rijsberman, participated in a panel session entitled Tackling the energy sector: Investment, Divestment or Engagement?

The session explored strategies to invest in renewables and new technology in order to revolutionize and decarbonize the energy sector.  Joining Dr. Rijsberman on the panel was be Kate Murtagh, Harvard Management Company, and Michael Waldron, International Energy Agency.  ACORE’s CEO and President, Greg Wetstone, moderated the discussion.

With an estimated $5 trillion to $7 trillion in investment needed annually by 2030 to meet the SDGs, discussions and meetings held during the Sustainable Investment Forum helped drive finance toward the low carbon transition needed for a sustainable future.

Organized by Climate Action in partnership with the UNEP Finance Initiative, the Forum welcomed over 300 attendees representing asset owners and managers, banks, development institutions, NGOs, national policy makers all looking to drive innovation and collaboration.
