Organized by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and in partnership with the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, in collaboration with the Indonesian Plastic Recycling Association (Asosiasi Daur Ulang Plastik Indonesia/ADUPI), the session provided a guided platform for dialogue and early partnership building, featuring special participations from the Korea Resource Circulation Service Agency (KORA) and Korean recycling companies. This dialogue was supported by the Korean Green New Deal Trust Fund (KGNDTF), with funding from the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea (MoEF).
PCII is a program launched by GGGI to help Indonesia transition to a more sustainable and competitive circular plastics sector. It focuses on finding systemic gaps in the recovered plastics value chain, creating a conducive climate for investment, and raising funds for bankable circular economy solutions. Within this framework, the Networking Session is critical in promoting structured discourse about collaborative project development between Indonesia’s industries and international entities.
Leonardo Sambodo, Deputy for Food Affairs, Natural Resources, and Environment of the Ministry of National Development Planning, shared during his opening remarks how this initiative aligns with Bappenas’ Circular Economy Roadmap and National Action Plan. “PCII will explore potential opportunities with financiers and advocate enablers to the government, as well as facilitate businesses to access potential financing. We hope this will increase investment and incentives for the recycling industry across Indonesia,” he added.
Through structured networking and bilateral engagement, participants at the dialogue were encouraged to advance discussions beyond the event, refine project concepts, and build partnerships that can be supported through PCII’s upcoming call for proposals planned for December 3, 2025. The call for proposals is targeted at recycled plastics and bioplastics businesses in Indonesia and is designed to identify and support one investment-ready project that will help establish a circular plastic ecosystem.
The event marks an important step in aligning shared ambitions and accelerating concrete actions to strengthen Indonesia’s circular plastics value chain. “I feel that Indonesia is becoming more progressive and continues to move forward, but climate change, hot weather, and urban waste problems pose major challenges. I hope this event will be a starting point for a sustainable future. Hopefully, the collaboration between KORA and GGGI can continue to grow to envision and realize a better future,” said Lee Myung Hwan, President of KORA.
Christine Halim, Chairwoman of ADUPI, is optimistic that this partnership under PCII will provide opportunities for both Indonesian and international entities to understand the national and global recycled plastic market landscape.
“ADUPI is collaborating with GGGI and KORA in the plastic recycling sector to promote a green economy and circular economy in Indonesia. We hope that this activity is not only the beginning. Indonesia has the potential to become cleaner [in managing waste], and the circular economy can support sustainable waste management financing,” she added.
The insights and connections formed during the networking session will serve as the foundation for more targeted and accelerated investment mobilization for a sustainable plastics ecosystem.
