Laura Isabel Valdez Morales

Laura Valdez is the Climate Finance and Subnational Senior Associate for the program in Mexico. In this role, Laura is responsible for the accreditation enhancement process of the Mexican Fund for Nature Conservation (FMCN) and the National Bank of Public Works and Services (BANOBRAS) and Nacional Financiera (NAFIN) — two Development Banks. She actively participates in the transition of the Mexican financial system towards a sustainable one. Laura has also developed strategies at the subnational level as part of a green recovery.

She has four years of professional experience in the environmental and sustainable area, two of them working with GGGI on the topic of climate finance. Previously, she worked at the Food and Agriculture Organisation as an Economic Consultant, developing food security and climate change research. Laura also worked as Economic Supervisor & Regulator at the National Banking and Securities Commission and as Economic Advisor to the Undersecretary of Finance and Public Credit at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. She also was a Teacher Assistant in the Faculty of Economics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in the subjects of Introduction to Economics and Microeconomics.

Laura speaks Spanish and English. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the UNAM and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University College London (UCL).
