José L. Amaya

As Sr. Programme Officer & Subnational Coordinator for Mexico, José provides support to the Government of Mexico and key counterparts to consolidate GGGI as an effective partner in the following programmatic solutions:

  • Climate action (with a focus on sub-national green growth strategies and post covid-19 green recovery plans).
  • Green finance and investments (with a focus on Green Climate Fund Readiness delivery, project preparation and financial mechanisms).
  • Support to Mexico’s state governments in the technical and financial structuring of green infrastructure solutions (with a focus on sustainable transport and waste management).

Jose has +15 years of experience working with international organizations, governments, and the private sector in the areas of development, low-carbon infrastructure, and project management. Prior to joining GGGI, José worked as a consultant for The World Bank; performed monitoring and evaluation for federal and subnational subsidy programmes (PROAGRO), plus led the provision of low-carbon solutions conducive to green building ratings (e.g., LEED) for +30 projects in Mexico and Latin America.

Jose holds an MSc in Development Planning from University College London (UCL) and a BSc in Civil Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey. He speaks Spanish and English fluently.
