Herliati Rahmi, or Ellie for short, has joined GGGI since 2015 and is now the East Kalimantan Provincial Program Officer of GGGI Indonesia, based in Samarinda, the provincial capital of East Kalimantan. Ellie brought over her skills in public relations and hospitality with more than 10 years of experience in government relations and international grant project management.
Prior to joining GGGI, she worked as the Program Manager for Laras Indonesia Foundation (2011-2015) in cooperation with Mainline Netherlands, managing the program “Bridging the Gaps: Health and Rights of Key Population” on HIV & AIDS prevention and harm reduction in East Kalimantan, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. Back in 2002-2004, Ellie worked on UNDP’s international grant projects of Ford Foundation and Partnership for Governance Reform in Indonesia for East Kalimantan Province. In the beginning of her career, Ellie also served as a protocol officer and interpreter at the Provincial Secretariat of East Kalimantan in Samarinda, and as a social secretary to the Austrian Ambassador in Jakarta.
Ellie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Sciences from the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in collaboration with Flinders University Australia. She also holds a Diploma in Translation from the Indonesian Open Learning University (2004) and a Diploma in International Studies (English) from EF Boston Language Academy (1998). In her free time, she enjoys practicing yoga and managing her gallery consisting a collection of vintage portraits that tell the history of Samarinda from early 1900 as well as other cultural antiques dedicated for the preservation of local heritage.
