Dethie serves as the Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Burkina Faso. In this role, he spearheads GGGI’s green growth initiatives, overseeing strategic partnerships with the government and driving the development and execution of a dynamic portfolio of projects and programs. A Senegalese national with 20 years of extensive experience in climate finance and environmental sustainability, Dethie has held pivotal roles at regional and international institutions. As Senior Climate Finance Expert at the ECOWAS Commission, he advised the Environment Commissioner and developed a robust portfolio of climate projects and programs for the West African sub-region. During his tenure as Africa Regional Programme Manager (Climate Finance) at the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), he designed and implemented a continent-wide technical assistance program, establishing it as a key financing mechanism for the AfDB-GCA Africa Adaptation Acceleration Programme (AAAP). Earlier, as Head of the Climate Finance Unit and the Natural Resources Management & Local Development Programme at Senegal’s Centre de Suivi Écologique (CSE), he led Senegal’s pioneer experience in direct accessing the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund—a landmark achievement in climate finance accessibility for developing countries. Dethie has also contributed his expertise through short-term assignments with leading international organizations, including UNDP, the World Bank, FAO, and UN Environment, as well as bilateral agencies such as USAID, UKAID, and IDRC. His work spans over 20 countries, equipping him with deep cross-cultural proficiency and a global perspective. Dethie holds an MBA in Business Administration from the Centre Africain d’Etudes Supérieures en Gestion (CESAG).
