Ahmed Al Amra is a seasoned senior manager and strategist in green growth, climate action, and sustainable development with over 19 years of expertise in driving transformative initiatives across national planning frameworks, policy development, research, training, institutional reforms, governance, and green investment. He has a proven track record of working alongside policymakers, business leaders, think tanks, academic institutions, and government officials at all levels to foster collaborative solutions for sustainable development and climate resilience.
Since July 1, 2022, Mr. Al Amra has served as the Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in the UAE, where he leads the institute’s efforts in the country, overseeing strategic direction and ensuring alignment with both organizational and national objectives for green growth and climate action. In this capacity, he is responsible for driving forward the UAE’s sustainability agenda, including fostering green investments and supporting climate adaptation strategies.
Prior to this, Mr. Al Amra was the Program Director of GGGI’s Bahrain Program from April 2020 to July 2022. He spearheaded the country’s green growth initiatives with a particular focus on advancing Bahrain’s climate change adaptation framework, working closely with national stakeholders to integrate climate resilience into key sectors of the economy.
From June 2015 to April 2020, Mr. Al Amra served as the Country Representative of GGGI in Jordan, where he played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s green growth and green economy strategies. His work in Jordan encompassed a wide array of sectors, including energy, transport, water, agriculture, waste management, and tourism, ensuring that these sectors contributed to both economic development and sustainability. He also supported Jordan’s national efforts in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Before his tenure at GGGI, Mr. Al Amra had a distinguished career in energy and environmental policy in Jordan, where he provided consultancy services to major development partners such as the EU, USAID, and AFD from 2013 to 2015. He also collaborated with the private sector in Jordan between 2004 and 2013, offering strategic insights on sustainability and environmental management.
Throughout his career, Mr. Al Amra has been deeply committed to the nexus of climate change, sustainability, and economic development. He has worked tirelessly to help governments, business leaders, and policymakers understand the long-term economic and environmental implications of their decisions, particularly in the context of climate action.
Mr. Al Amra holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His academic background is complemented by several prestigious certifications, including Certified Energy Manager (CEM) from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), Certified Carbon Reduction Manager (CRM) from AEE, Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) from AEE, and a Diploma in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) from JES – Jordan. Additionally, he has completed the Sustainable Finance course from the University of Cambridge, further solidifying his expertise in the intersection of sustainability and finance.
