Special Coverage – GGGI at the UNGA and Climate Week: Day 5 (Sept. 25)

Regional Pacific NDC Hub High-Level Event

GGGI Director Mahamadou Tounkara took part in the Regional Pacific NDC Hub High-Level event on implementing ambitious NDCs in Pacific Island countries. The Prime Minister of Fiji gave the opening remarks of the event.

The President of Kiribati, Taneti Mamau, in his speech, expressed his thanks to GGGI for providing support to Kiribati’s ambitious energy transition goal of reaching 100% renewable energy by the year 2025. Director Mahamadou Tounkara commended the leadership of the Pacific Island states for their low emissions and shared that GGGI stands ready to further support the Pacific on climate action.

Also, During the event, the Leader of Tokelau Island and the New Zealand Minister for Pacific People indicated the recent collaboration between New Zealand and Tokelau Island. The New Zealand Minister for Pacific People called for greater and more ambitious targets to generate opportunities to shift the development approach.

 

2030 Water Resources Group (WRG) Governing Council Meeting

On Sept 25, GGGI Director-General, Frank Rijsberman, took part in the 2030 Water Resources Group (WRG) Governing Council meeting. The event was hosted by the World Bank and focused on the topic of multi-stakeholder platforms for water security.

GGGI is one of the 2030 WRG’s global partners, committed to helping countries achieve water security by 2030. The 2030 WRG is a public, private, civil society partnership hosted by the World Bank Group, that supports country-level collaboration designed to unite diverse groups with a common interest in the sustainable management of water resources.
