The 1-year project activities are co-funded by NDC-Partnership and Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI); and implemented by the GGGI with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) in close coordination with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition Secretariat, UN Environment Programme and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia.

In 2019, Mongolia updated its National Determined Contributions (NDC) increasing its greenhouse gas emissions mitigation target to 22.7% by 2030 and incorporating 8 priorities for climate change adaptation. This 1-year project is working with stakeholders across sectors at national and sub-national levels to improve the understanding of emissions from key source sectors in Mongolia (including Hydroflurocarbons (HFCs), which have not been included in climate change planning to date), extend scenarios and projections from 2030 to 2050, build capacity to use the Low Emissions Alternative Platform-Integrated Benefits Calculator (LEAP-IBC)1 tool to analyze emissions and mitigation measures, and assess local benefits of climate change mitigation on air pollution and human health. It will help to support implementation of Mongolia’s current NDC and contribute to the next NDC update in 2025.
