Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – July12, 2024 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Environment, Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition (MINEDDTE), organized a two-day consultation and awareness workshop for the project “Promoting an integrated Sustainable and Low-Emission Transport System in Côte d’Ivoire.” This event, supported by the West African Development Bank (BOAD), as accredited entity to the Green Climate Fund and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). and GGGI through the Korean green new deal fund (KGNDF) received additional funding to support consultation and technical studies to enhance this project concept note.

The workshop aimed to engage main actors of the e-mobility transport ecosystem in Cote d’ Ivoire.     The primary goal was to refine key components of the project to ensure alignment with national priorities for decarbonizing the transport sector. The project seeks to improve urban mobility and reduce the carbon footprint of Côte d’Ivoire’s transport sector, a priority area under GGGI’s strategic partnership framework with the Ivorian government as a key programmatic solution on sustainable transport on the CPF.

The event brought together representatives from various government ministries, private sector entities, financial institutions, and civil society organizations. Key stakeholders included the Ministry of Transport, MINEDDTE, BOAD, UNIDO, and other national and international partners.

“The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is deeply committed to supporting Côte d’Ivoire in its transition to sustainable mobility. Our partnership began with the submission of a concept note to the Green Climate Fund in 2021, laying the foundation for ambitious and innovative projects aimed at improving quality of life while reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector. With additional funding from the Korean Green Growth Trust Fund, we are confident and determined to advance this essential project,” said Mrs. Olola Vieyra GGGI’s Country Representative in Cote d’Ivoire.

Over the two days, participants have:

  • Reviewed and discussed the revisions to the concept note in response to feedback from the GCF.
  • Examined and refined key project components to ensure the alignment with national priorities for transport decarbonization and current mobility project in development at the country level
  • Participated in group discussions to reflect on the Theory of Change (ToC) and implementation arrangements, identify barriers and risks, and propose solutions to overcome the identified barriers and oriented towards the paradigm shift
  • Identified niche areas where GGGI could provide technical assistance to the government and better understanding of the country roadmap that could support its activities in terms of electric mobility in CIV.

The next steps are one to one sessions with partners and the accredited entity to consolidate the inputs received from these consultations, finalize the concept note and convene stakeholders for a validation workshop.
