The Development of a Monitoring Reporting, and Verification (MRV) System supported the country to meet the enhanced transparency framework requirements of the Paris Agreement, specifically focusing on the MRV of actions, which will include both mitigation and adaptation actions. The government of Burkina Faso has undertaken this process to bring clarity, to track progress towards achieving the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and to build capacity of national stakeholders to get prepared to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Paris agreement reporting requirements.

Under Article 13 of the Paris Agreement, countries must have a transparent system for greenhouse gas (GHGs) data management and operationalization to enable them deliver cost-effective mitigation actions, monitor the progress towards the NDC targets and revise them as needed in future iterations. Since 2018, GGGI has been supporting Burkina Faso in its transition on a green growth pathway, hence this MRV project to meet the country commitments.
