Amman, Jordan – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in partnership with Jordan’s Ministry of Environment and GIZ, convened government representatives and water sector stakeholders in Amman for a post-COP30 dialogue on advancing climate finance for the water sector.
The meeting, held under the Water Sector Governance Project, focused on translating key outcomes from the UN Climate Conference into actionable pathways for Jordan’s water sector. Discussions highlighted the increasing global emphasis on implementation, with climate finance expected to scale significantly to meet adaptation and mitigation needs.
Participants explored strategic entry points for mobilizing climate finance across three priority areas: carbon markets, Loss and Damage, and the climate–refugee nexus. Eng. Belal Shqarin of the Climate Change Directorate presented on these areas, highlighting Jordan’s opportunities under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to advance carbon finance. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening national systems for drought resilience, early warning, and shock-responsive financing, while ensuring stronger alignment of climate finance mechanisms with existing institutional frameworks to support more effective and sustainable implementation.
Building on Jordan’s strong institutional frameworks and policy commitments, the workshop reinforced the country’s potential to serve as a regional model for climate finance implementation, particularly in water-scarce and climate-vulnerable contexts.
GGGI and partners will continue to support the development of practical pipelines and financing mechanisms that accelerate climate action while strengthening national systems.
