Amman, Jordan, 21 July 2026 — Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ayman Soleiman, Minister of Environment, the Ministry of Environment, in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), and Good Neighbors Jordan, marked the closure of the project <Creating Sustainable Green Jobs for Refugees and Host Communities through the Green Economy in Jordan>. Funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the three-year project supported inclusive green employment opportunities for women, youth, refugees, and host communities.

Implemented from 2023 to 2026 across Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, and Zarqa, the project supported Jordan’s transition toward an inclusive green economy by strengthening green skills, promoting green entrepreneurship, and contributing to a more enabling green employment ecosystem.

The closure event opened with remarks by H.E. Pilwoo Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan, and H.E. Dr. Ayman Soleiman, Minister of Environment, followed by a presentation of the project’s results by Mr. Christophe Assicot, GGGI Country Representative in Jordan, and testimonials from project beneficiaries.

In his remarks, H.E. Dr. Ayman Soleiman, Minister of Environment, emphasized that green jobs are a national priority that links environmental protection with economic growth and job creation, in line with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision and the Sustainable Development Goals. He noted that the project contributed to strengthening the capacities of youth, women, and entrepreneurs, while supporting the transition toward a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

H.E. Dr. Soleiman added that the project delivered tangible results by developing green skills, promoting environmental entrepreneurship, and providing incubation and acceleration programmes for emerging businesses. He emphasized that these achievements provide a strong foundation for the next phase of work, ensuring the sustainability of impact and expanding green employment opportunities across the Kingdom.

In his remarks, H.E. Pilwoo Kim highlighted the Republic of Korea’s support for the project through KOICA, amounting to USD 5.58 million, noting that this collaboration has made a valuable contribution to Jordan’s green growth and the creation of green jobs.

He also reaffirmed Korea’s unwavering commitment to supporting Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV), stating, “The Republic of Korea will remain a reliable partner of Jordan on its journey toward a Green and Smart Jordan,” which are among the key pillars of the Vision.

Presenting the project’s results, Mr. Christophe Assicot, GGGI Country Representative in Jordan, emphasized that the project’s impact extends beyond direct training and business support, contributing to stronger national systems for long-term green employment in Jordan.

“Through this project, 1,649 people joined green skills training, 870 prospective entrepreneurs participated training, 303 businesses joined incubation programmes, and 22 businesses received acceleration support,” said Mr. Assicot. “These results demonstrate how green growth can translate into practical opportunities for people, businesses, and communities.”

He added:

“Working closely with the Government of Jordan, KOICA, Good Neighbors Jordan, and national stakeholders, GGGI helped strengthen the foundations for an inclusive green employment ecosystem, including through the development of Jordan’s first Green Employment National Action Plan. Once released, the Action Plan will provide a long-term strategic framework to guide and coordinate Jordan’s green employment agenda.”

The event featured a beneficiary panel discussion highlighting participants’ journeys across ESG reporting, green business incubation, and acceleration, including how training, mentorship, and financial support helped them apply new skills, strengthen their businesses, and contribute to sustainability and Jordan’s green economy.

As the project concludes, partners reaffirmed that the closure marks a milestone rather than an endpoint. The partnerships, skills, knowledge products, and entrepreneurship pathways established through the project provide a foundation for continued green job creation in Jordan.

요르단 암만, 2026 년 7월 21일 (현지시각) – 요르단 환경부와 글로벌녹색성장연구소(GGGI), 굿네이버스 요르단은 요르단 환경부 장관 아이만 솔레이만(H.E. Dr. Ayman Soleiman) 박사의 후원 아래 <요르단 녹색 경제를 통한 난민 및 지역 주민의 지속 가능한 일자리 창출 사업> 종료식을 개최했다.

• 본 사업은 한국국제협력단(KOICA)의 지원으로 지난 2023년부터 2026년까지 3년간 암만(Amman), 이르비드(Irbid), 마프라크(Mafraq), 자르카(Zarqa) 지역에서 여성, 청년, 난민, 그리고 수용 커뮤니티 주민들을 대상으로 녹색 역량 강화, 녹색 창업 촉진, 그리고 녹색 고용 생태계 조성에 주력하며 요르단의 포용적 녹색 경제 전환을 적극 뒷받침했다.
• 이번 행사는 김필우 주요르단 대한민국 대사와 아이만 솔레이만 환경부 장관의 환영사로 막을 열었고, 크리스토프 아시코(Dr. Christophe Assicot) GGGI 요르단 사무소장의 사업 성과 발표와 사업 수혜자들의 생생한 소감 발표로 이어졌다.

김필우 주요르단 대사는 코이카를 통한 대한민국 정부의 558만 달러 규모 지원을 언급하며, 이번 협력이 요르단의 녹색 성장과 녹색 일자리 창출에 큰 기여를 했다고 강조했다. 또한 김 대사는 요르단의 경제현대화 비전을 지지하겠다는 대한민국의 굳건한 약속을 재확인하며, “대한민국은 ‘친환경 스마트 요르단’을 향해 나아가는 요르단의 여정에서 든든한 동반자로 남을 것”이라고 밝혔다.

사업 성과를 발표한 크리스토프 아시코GGGI 요르단 사무소장은 이번 사업의 영향력이 단순한 교육과 창업 지원을 넘어, 장기적인 녹색 고용을 위한 국가 시스템 강화로 이어졌다고 설명했다.

아시코 소장은 “본 사업을 통해 1,649명이 녹색 기술 교육을 수료했으며, 870명의 예비 창업가가 교육에 참여했다. 또한 303개 기업이 인큐베이팅 프로그램을 거쳤고, 22개 기업이 액셀러레이팅 지원을 받았다”며, “이러한 성과는 녹색 성장이 어떻게 사람과 기업, 그리고 지역 사회를 위한 실질적 기회로 전환될 수 있는지를 잘 보여준다”고 강조했다.

 

아울러, “요르단 정부, 코이카, 굿네이버스 요르단 및 국내 이해관계자들과 긴밀히 협력하여 요르단 최초의 <녹색고용 국가행동계획> 수립을 지원하는 등 포용적 녹색 고용 생태계의 기틀을 다졌다”며, “향후 이 행동계획이 공식 발표되면 요르단의 녹색 고용 의제를 견인하고 조율하는 장기 전략 체계가 될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

이날 행사의 일환으로 진행된 수혜자 패널 토론에서는 ESG 공시, 녹색 기업 인큐베이팅 및 액셀러레이팅 과정에 참여한 이들의 여정이 조명되었다. 참가자들은 교육, 멘토링, 재정적 지원이 새로운 기술을 현장에 적용하고, 기업 경쟁력을 강화하며, 지속 가능성과 녹색 경제에 기여하는 데 어떻게 도움이 되었는지 그 경험을 공유했다.

사업은 공식적으로 마무리되지만, 참여 기관들은 이번 종료가 끝이 아닌 새로운 도약의 이정표임을 재확인했다. 사업을 통해 구축된 파트너십, 기술, 지식 자산, 그리고 창업 지원 경로들은 앞으로 요르단에서 녹색 일자리를 만들어가는 강력한 기반이 될 전망이다.
