The Forum brought together representatives from government entities, international partners, financial institutions, and the private sector to advance financing solutions for electric buses in Jordan, with a particular focus on sustainable tourism transport.
Organized by the Ministry of Environment, in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and co-chaired by the Ministries of Environment, Transport, and Energy and Mineral Resources, the Forum addressed key challenges to advance electric public and tourist transport. Discussions focused on financing mechanisms, regulatory and policy frameworks, taxation and incentives, standardization, and charging infrastructure readiness, while also exploring risk-reduction pathways to attract private sector investment.
During the Forum, GGGI Executive Director Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, visiting from the Republic of Korea, highlighted the importance of aligning policy reform, institutional coordination, and sustainable finance.. Ms. Sulafa Madanat, Country Representative of UNIDO in Jordan, indicated that electric buses are a key solution linking climate action, economic growth, and sustainable tourism, while Dr. Jihad Alsawair, Advisor to the Minister of Environment for Technical and International Affairs, emphasized the importance of decarbonizing the transport sector in Jordan. The Forum also featured a panel discussion on solutions for Jordan’s electric bus transition, with the participation of H.E. Fares Abu Dayyeh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport, alongside public and private sector representatives.
The Forum highlighted opportunities to mobilize climate and green finance to bridge the financing gap, strengthen public-private collaboration, and move from pilot projects to bankable and scalable electric mobility solutions, in support of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision and national climate commitments.
