Amman, Jordan — 7 May 2026 — The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in partnership with Jordan’s Ministry of Transport, concluded a 3-day ‘Carbon Literacy Training’ to strengthen foundational knowledge on climate change. The sessions brought together participants from national transport institutions as well as key government entities, including the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Energy, and the Greater Amman Municipality,

The program included eight modules covering climate change fundamentals, carbon footprint concepts, climate policy, Jordan’s role in international climate action, climate finance, climate justice, and climate change solutions for Jordan.

The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of climate science, carbon impacts, and global and national climate policy frameworks, while encouraging knowledge exchange across institutions working in the transport sector. Sessions also explored climate-related opportunities and challenges in Jordan and the Arab region, climate finance, and inclusive approaches addressing youth, women, food systems, and vulnerable groups.

In his closing remarks, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport, Dr. Fares Abu Dayyeh, emphasized the importance of building institutional capacity for climate action, noting:

“Hosting this training at the Ministry of Transport reflects the central role of the public sector in leading national efforts to reduce carbon emissions and build the technical and knowledge-based capacities needed to respond to global climate challenges. Investing in knowledge and capacity building is the foundation of any successful transition toward a green economy.”

He also stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among relevant institutions to ensure an effective and integrated response to environmental and economic challenges.

GGGI Jordan’s Country Representative, Mr. Christophe Assicot, said:

“Building the capacity of government stakeholders on climate change is one of the key priorities of GGGI in our revised 2030 strategy. Last year only, GGGI Jordan supported a total 178 capacity buildings activities for a total 3718 participants.”

The training also aligns with the national efforts led through the High Level Forum for E-mobility in Jordan (HFE), which was established under the joint leadership of the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as part of the “Integrated Adoption of Electric Mobility in Jordan” project. The project is implemented by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment, with  funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). It aims to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in urban areas through technology transfer and innovation.
