Fiji and GGGI strengthen efforts to implement national green growth

_MG_9835SUVA, Fiji – November 03, 2015 – Fiji’s Ministry of Finance and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed a Host Country Agreement on October 30, 2015. The Agreement cements a mutual commitment between Fiji and GGGI to work together to develop green growth policy and implement projects on the island nation and paves the way for GGGI and its Fijian partners to prepare a 5-year Country Planning Framework in 2016.

The Agreement comes on the heels of GGGI opening a Country Office in Suva, and will enable GGGI to provide expertise to government stakeholders to develop opportunities identified in the Fiji Green Growth Framework that was launched in 2014.

“Along with our projects in Fiji and the opening of our new office here, this Host Country Agreement affirms and solidifies GGGI’s commitment to assisting Fiji in its efforts to realize inclusive green growth”, said GGGI Country Portfolio Director, Dr. Imran Ahmad.

The first phase of GGGI’s work program in Fiji will engage the Strategic Planning Department of the Ministry of Finance to mainstream green growth into the new national development plan. GGGI will also support prioritization of green infrastructure projects for implementation and identify financing opportunities for these projects.
