New Delhi, India, November 2024 – In a significant step toward advance green energy initiatives in India, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on November 28, 2024, between Mr. V.R. Shrivastava, Executive Director (REGH), NHPC Ltd. and Mr.  Soumya Prasad Garnaik, India Country Representative, GGGI India, in the presence of Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC and senior officials from both the organizations.

NHPC Ltd. is the largest hydropower development organization in India, with 7232.9 MW of installed and 10604 MW under construction. NHPC Ltd. is also venturing into solar and wind energy businesses, as well as small hydro and green hydrogen projects, to support the country’s international climate commitments. Prior to the signing ceremony, senior officials of the GGGI India team, Mr. Nitesh Kumar India Program Lead, and Mr. Ashok Thanikonda, Senior Program Officer highlighted the organizations key achievements both internationally and in India including the 600 MW Floating Solar Project, Green Hydrogen, Narmada Landscape Restoration Project (NLRP), Agri-PV, issuance of USD 500 million green bonds amongst others.

Speaking on this occasion Mr. Uttam Lal shared “This partnership signifies NHPC’s dedication to adopting innovative clean energy solutions and supporting sustainable development. With GGGI’s expertise and NHPC’s legacy in renewable energy, we are poised to make impactful contributions toward a greener future”. Mr. Soumya Garnaik added, “We are confident that GGGI’s international experience in providing technical assistance for large-scale renewable energy projects and raising sustainable financing will be extremely useful in advancing NHPC Ltd.’s sustainability goals in the country”.  

The MoU marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration to pave the way for scalable and impactful green energy solutions in the country. Through this partnership, NHPC Ltd. and GGGI reaffirm their commitment to creating a sustainable, energy-secure future for generations to come.
