Seoul, Republic of Korea, September 2, 2025 – The Government of Nepal (GoN), represented by the Ministry of Forests and Environment (MoFE), and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed the Host Country Agreement (HCA).

GGGI began its operation in Nepal in 2015. Since then, GGGI has been successful in establishing ties with various ministries through the Green Growth Potential Assessment and Country Planning Framework activities. This groundwork led to the formalization of GGGI’s partnership with the GoN through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017.

The newly signed HCA will enable the Government of Nepal and GGGI to plan more effectively and implement green growth initiatives in the country and will strengthen Nepal’s ability to mobilize green finance. The HCA will enable Nepal to advance its climate priorities by fostering stronger collaboration to drive sustainable and climate-resilient growth.

“Nepal has demonstrated strong leadership in biodiversity conservation and climate action. As we approach graduation from Least Developed Country status in 2026, mobilizing investment and scaling green finance will be critical. GGGI’s partnership is vital for helping us deliver on our commitments and building resilience for our most vulnerable communities” said Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Forests and Environment, Government of Nepal.

“GGGI is honored to partner with Nepal, a country at the forefront of green growth project implementation across sustainable forestry and ecosystem restoration, renewable energy development, sustainable transport, waste management and climate-smart agriculture. Together we are building Nepal’s capacity to apply innovative financing mechanisms, such as carbon markets and green bonds, to channel resources where they are needed most. We look forward to supporting the Government of Nepal through the Green Growth Steering Committee and the Country Planning Framework to ensure long-term, inclusive, and climate-resilient development,” Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, GGGI Director General, added.

Nepal joined GGGI as Member in 2022. GGGI Nepal is hosted by the Ministry of Forests and Environment at the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation.
