Morocco to Become the 53rd Member State of the Global Green Growth Institute

Seoul, Republic of Korea, October 15, 2025 – The Kingdom of Morocco has officially submitted its Instrument of Acceptance to become the 53rd Member State of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). This significant milestone affirms Morocco’s commitment to sustainable economic development and its engagement in global efforts toward inclusive green growth.
The Government of the Kingdom of Morocco represented by H.E. Dr. Chafik Rachadi, Ambassador of His Majesty the King of Morocco to the Republic of Korea, expressed his support for Morocco’s accession to GGGI stating, “Guided by the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King, Morocco is building a sustainable and inclusive model of growth, one that reflects its deep commitment to green development and resonates with the principles upheld by the Global Green Growth Institute. By joining GGGI, Morocco reaffirms its determination to translate this vision into concrete action and to strengthen global cooperation for a greener and more prosperous future.”
Welcoming Morocco’s membership to GGGI, Director-General Sang-hyup Kim said,“At GGGI, we work closely with our Member States to advance their green transition through targeted technical support and capacity development. We are pleased to welcome the Kingdom of Morocco as our 53rd Member State. Morocco has demonstrated strong leadership in sustainability, driven by the country’s ambitious climate policies and investments in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and climate-smart agriculture to diversify its economy, ensure energy independence, and build climate resilience. This accession builds a decade of collaboration and opens new opportunities to scale impact. We look forward to strengthening our partnership and supporting Morocco’s efforts to drive inclusive, low-carbon development.”
Morocco’s collaboration with GGGI, launched in 2015, supports the country’s National Sustainable Development Strategy, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a green, inclusive development model. Delivered by a dedicated team working closely with national and territorial institutions, the program focuses on four strategic areas: (1) Climate Finance, (2) Circular Economy and Waste Management, (3) Carbon Pricing and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and (4) Energy Transition with Investment Mobilization. Together, GGGI and Morocco are joining forces to unlock greater access to climate finance, supporting the development of bankable, high-impact projects that drive the green transition. This renewed partnership also aims to reinforce institutional capacities and policy frameworks to ensure lasting and transformative results.
Morocco’s accession marks a significant milestone in this collaboration, reflecting its unwavering commitment and leadership in advancing sustainable development and climate action across the region and beyond.
Morocco joins a growing network of countries committed to building low-carbon, climate-resilient, and inclusive economies. As the 6th Member State from the MENA region, joining Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. This step reflects Morocco’s sustained commitment to regional leadership in sustainable development and global climate cooperation.
Morocco ’s full membership will be confirmed on November 14, 2025, marking its official entry as the 53rd Member State of the Global Green Growth Institute.

Membership to GGGI is open to any member state of the United Nations or regional integration organization that subscribes to the objectives of the Institute, namely: promoting sustainable development of developing and emerging countries, including the least developed countries, by: supporting and diffusing a new paradigm of economic growth: green growth, which is a balanced advance of economic growth and environmental sustainability; targeting key aspects of economic performance and resilience, poverty reduction, job creation and social inclusion, and environmental sustainability; and creating and improving the economic, environmental and social conditions of countries through partnerships between developed and developing countries and the public and private sectors.
