Vang Vieng District, Lao PDR, 20 August 2026 – The Department of Environment (DoE), Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE), together with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), convened the final Sectoral Coordination Steering Committee Meeting for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Project, “Support for Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation into Sectoral Planning in Lao PDR,” marking a successful project closure.

The meeting brought government agencies and development partners together to review achievements made, reflect on lessons learned for entire project duration, and agree on practical next steps to carry the project’s results into future adaptation planning and financing.

Throughout its implementation, the Readiness project helped Lao PDR mainstream climate adaptation into planning across agriculture and forestry, urban development and transport, and water resources.
At the final meeting, participants witnessed key achievements made such as the completion of the Climate Risks and Vulnerabilities Assessment (CRVA) for priority sectors, the Sectoral Adaptation Plans (SAPs), and Sectoral Climate Adaptation Mainstreaming Plan. Moreover, it highlighted the linkages between the Readiness project outcomes and other key Lao PDR’s climate adaptation efforts.
Participants also shared their feedback on project implementation and discussed GCF Readiness priorities and funding mechanisms, which provided a basis for considering how Lao PDR can continue to advance adaptation priorities after the Readiness Project concludes.

With the project approaching completion, the focus now shifts from establishing the foundation to using it. The lessons and outputs generated through the project can support continued coordination among government institutions and development partners, while the Sectoral Adaptation Plans and related investment concepts provide a basis for future adaptation action and financing.
The final meeting therefore marks a transition from project delivery to continued action, carrying forward the tools, knowledge, and partnerships developed through the project to support climate-resilient development across Lao PDR.
