Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 30 July 2026 –Mr. Sang-Hyup Kim, Executive Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), recently met with H.E. Kim Chang-yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, to highlight the growing role and momentum of Korean climate technology and innovation in supporting Cambodia’s climate and development priorities.

The two sides exchanged views on the importance of international cooperation in addressing climate change, promoting sustainable growth, and advancing carbon neutrality. They also discussed Cambodia’s green growth potential, GGGI’s ongoing programs, Article 6, and opportunities to apply artificial intelligence to climate action and sustainable development.

A key initiative highlighted during the meeting was the Climate Technology Accelerator Fund (CTAF) jointly established by GGGI and Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT. A Cambodia-led AI-based smart-grid initiative was recently selected among 10 global projects supported by the Fund. Building on the technology’s application in Cambodia, the project will demonstrate its use in partnership with Electricité du Laos. The demonstration is expected to generate evidence for future investment and wider replication across Southeast Asia.

H.E. Kim Chang-yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, said, “Cambodia has shown strong potential to advance green growth, and international cooperation will be essential to translate this potential into practical climate solutions”. H.E. Kim Chang-yong continued, “the selection of a Cambodia project under the Climate Technology Accelerator Fund (CTAF) is a strong example of how innovation successfully applied in Cambodia can be further developed and scaled through cooperation with Korean expertise and regional partners. Korea looks forward to working with GGGI and Cambodian partners to expand such opportunities and advance climate action, sustainable development, and carbon neutrality.”

The meeting also highlighted other Korean-funded initiatives implemented by GGGI such as the GCF/KDB-funded Climate Technopreneurship Programme, the ASEAN–Korea Cooperation for Methane Mitigation project, and ASEAN–Korea Cooperation for Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management (IMSWM) for Environmentally Sustainable Cities project. These initiatives form part of a broader Korea–GGGI partnership supporting Cambodia in climate technology, green investment, sustainable mobility, carbon markets, agriculture, and other priority areas.

Executive Director Kim reaffirmed GGGI’s commitment to working with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Royal Government of Cambodia, and Korean partner institutions to connect innovative technologies and financing with practical projects that deliver climate, economic, and development benefits.

The meeting formed part of Executive Director Kim’s official mission to Cambodia and reflected the growing momentum of Korean climate innovation in the supporting country’s climate action priority.
