Korean Ambassador and GGGI Discuss Sustainable Development and Green Initiatives in Jordan

On the 29th of May 2023, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) had a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Jordan at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Jordan with key representatives from both parties. The overarching theme of the discussion was sustainable growth in Jordan, with an emphasis on Jordan’s development priorities.

Through the meeting, both parties underscored the mutual commitment towards green growth and sustainable development in Jordan. H.E. Kim Dong-gi, the Korean Ambassador to Jordan, expressed his deep appreciation for GGGI’s sustainable work in the country. He highlighted the significance of carbon trade and eco-tourism in Jordan’s sustainability landscape, recognizing these as pivotal areas where GGGI’s expertise could make a considerable impact.

Affirming the Embassy’s support, the Ambassador committed to a close collaboration with GGGI and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to advance these goals. This promise of collaboration aligns with GGGI’s Strategy 2030, bolstering efforts to reduce GHG Emissions, create Green Jobs, improve Air Quality, ensure an adequate supply of ecosystem services, and enhance Climate Change Adaptation.

The GGGI Green Jobs project, funded by KOICA, was highlighted as a significant initiative that will provide job opportunities for the unemployed in Jordan while establishing a successful green job project model for scalability.

Deputy Director-General Helena McLeod, in response, expressed gratitude towards the Korean Embassy for their ongoing support and shared anticipation for the joint efforts in promoting green growth in Jordan.

This meeting served as a reaffirmation of the strong partnership between GGGI, the Korean Embassy, and KOICA, indicating a promising future for sustainable development in Jordan. The discussions held, and the commitments made pave the way for impactful projects that align with Jordan’s national development priorities and GGGI’s strategic objectives.
