Knowledge sharing on green growth and city-wide inclusion sanitation in Senegal

On Thursday, July 25, 2019, GGGI Senegal held a sharing session with the National Office for Sanitation (ONAS) executive team. This activity is part of the workplan for the implementation of the MOU signed before GGGI and ONAS. ONAS, as the National utility in charge of Sanitation, is GGGI’s main partner for the Bill and Melinda Gates’ funded Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Project.

Participants had the opportunity to share information on planning tools, green cities development, circular economy, climate strategies, and green bankable projects.

GGGI and ONAS identified the capacity building and technical support needs for ONAS on developing and funding green projects and reviewing NDC for a better mainstreaming of Sanitation. One of the findings from this session is that ONAS is not yet familiar with green finance as, despite it having run several projects on circular economy, no ONAS project has been funded through GCF or similar facilities. A joint learning trip in Fiji to get inspired by their Green Project on Water and Sanitation is strongly recommended as a short-term action.

Hopefully, this session launches a large and rewarding partnership between the two entities.
