Kigali to host first Rwanda Green Growth Week

Kigali, December 1, 2017 – Rwanda’s national Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy (GGCRS) has been in operation since 2011. Following the launch of the Strategy, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) began supporting the Government of Rwanda in implementing the GGCRS through various projects and programs to integrate green growth principles into policy-making, planning, and institutional development.

Rwanda is embarking on the next stage of its development through the National Strategy for Transformation (NST), and green growth will be central to achieving the goals of the strategy. The Government of Rwanda, GGGI and other stakeholders recognized the momentum to share knowledge and build partnerships for implementation, amongst key stakeholders working for a green Rwanda.

Rwanda Green Growth Week will start with a high-level policy dialogue on the country’s green growth, and will be continue throughout the week with a series of panel discussions, policy sessions, workshops, trainings, site visits, study tours, social events, and others.

Partners of the Global Green Growth Institute organizing the Rwanda Green Growth Week include the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Rwanda Environment Management Authority, Rwanda Green Fund (FONERWA), Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA), Rwanda Green Building Organization (RGBO), One UN Rwanda, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Low Emission Development Strategies Partnership (LEDS Africa) & 4C Maroc, Rwanda Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre, and the City of Kigali, where the main events will take place.
