Inter-ministerial steering committee established for the GGGI Morocco program

24 October 2019 Rabat, Morocco. The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Morocco team and the Department of Environment at the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment jointly organized the first inter-ministerial steering committee meeting for the GGGI Morocco program. The committee purpose is to provide strategic advice on the design and implementation of the program, and to facilitate cooperation, coordination and validation of program initiatives by key stakeholders.

The objective of this first meeting was to discuss the strategic results for the 2020-2024 Country Planning Framework (CPF) which is now under development. The CPF is the foundation on which GGGI support is delivered to its member and partner countries, within the areas of climate finance, water, energy, green cities and sustainable landscapes.

Chaired by the Secretary General of the Environment Department and moderated by GGGI Morocco, the meeting was attended by 25 ministerial representatives across the government involved in sustainable development and green growth along with representatives from the civil society.

During the meeting, GGGI presented its overall CPF development process, the ongoing program as well as the targeted strategic results for the next 5 years. Discussions then took place to gather feedback from the committee members.

The meeting was also an opportunity to engage in a constructive dialogue on strengthening cooperation, coordination and validation of initiatives between all institutions involved in the program, in alignment with the implementation process of the National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS), the National Determined Contribution (NDC), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The next steps consist of sharing the CPF 2020-2024 draft document brief with the committee members to receive comments, which will inform the development of the full CPF document, in preparation for the CPF validation meeting expected to be held in December of this year.
