We work with Member States and partners to strengthen health systems so they can better withstand climate shocks, reduce environmental risks, and deliver safer, more reliable services. Our approach connects policy, projects, and finance so countries can move from planning to implementation. 

Our delivery model

1. Policy design

We support governments in the design and development of national, sub-national, and sectoral strategies that integrate health with climate resilience and environmental sustainability. This includes technical support for frameworks such as: 

• Climate-resilient health system strategies. 

• Health adaptation planning. 

• Disaster preparedness and emergency response frameworks. 

• Climate-linked disease surveillance. 

• Clean air and public health policies. 

 2. Project development 

We help countries translate their priorities into concrete, investment-ready projects. Our work includes: 

• Climate-resilient health facilities. 

• Energy-efficient and low-carbon healthcare infrastructure. 

• Sustainable health operations and supply chains. 

• Medical waste management and circular economy solutions in healthcare. 

• Urban health interventions that strengthen resilience to heat, pollution, and environmental risks. 

Through this work, we help countries move from strategy to practical interventions that strengthen health systems and community resilience. 

What we do

Our health work is centered on a few practical areas: 

• Climate-resilient health systems: We support health adaptation planning, preparedness, and surveillance systems that help services function under climate stress. 

• Green health infrastructure: We support energy-efficient facilities, cleaner supply chains, and resource-efficient operations. 

• Circular health systems: We help improve waste management and reduce environmental risks linked to healthcare operations. 

• Clean air and public health: We support air quality action, monitoring, and planning that protect health. 
• Knowledge and innovation: We support research, capacity building, and shared tools that help scale climate-health solutions. 

Results

Our health work is helping turn climate-health ambition into practical action. 

• USD 560,000 in healthcare waste management support is being delivered in Lao PDR through the Establishing Circular Economy in Healthcare Operations project in Xieng Khouang Province. 

• 5 strategic pillars guide the Global Green Health Accelerator Program, covering climate-resilient health systems, green health infrastructure, circular economy in healthy cities, clean air and public health, and innovation and knowledge. 

• 5 pilot countries are part of Phase I of the Global Green Health Accelerator Program, reflecting a focused effort to test and scale integrated climate-health solutions. 

• 500 officials and practitioners are expected to be trained through Phase I of the program.  

• Partnerships are being advanced in Central Asia, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, Ethiopia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia, reflecting growing demand for climate-health solutions across different contexts. 

Together, these results show how our health work helps countries build stronger health systems, cleaner environments, and more resilient communities.
