Panchkula, Haryana, India, January 31, 2025  – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), GreenTech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (GKSPL), Environmental Management Centre Pvt. Limited (EMC) and BDO India LLP hosted a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Buildings Registry Development at the Haryana New and Renewable Development Agency (HAREDA) office in Panchkula, under the Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) project. The project is being implemented in India under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and with HAREDA in Haryana.

The event featured insights from key stakeholders on the future of low carbon buildings in Haryana. Mr. S. Narayanan, IFS, Director General, HAREDA, provided an overview of some of the most progressive initiatives towards decarbonization of the buildings sector by the Government of Haryana. While Mr. Soumya Garnaik, Country Representative,GGGI India, highlighted some of India’s leading green building initiatives and Ms. Julie Robles, Project Manager – ALCBT Project, GGGI, shared the project’s objective and progress to date.

The workshop delved into discussions on major initiatives being undertaken in Haryana. Ms. Neha Sharma, Energy Efficiency Officer, GGGI India, elaborated on the ALCBT project initiatives in Haryana, followed by Mr. Prahlad Tewari, Vice President, EMC, who emphasized the benefits of registering into the buildings registry. Mr. Prashant Bhanware, Director, GKSPL, presented the building lifecycle and tool, and Mr. Sukhchain Singh, Officer, HAREDA concluded the event with his closing remarks.

As part of its implementation in Haryana, the project is establishing a comprehensive buildings registry covering 600 buildings, with over 100 buildings selected for detailed assessments and life cycle assessment. Of these, 22 buildings will be retrofitted with sustainable cooling technologies, including natural refrigerant-based air conditioners.

The workshop brought together over 30 professionals from academia, DISCOM utilities, engineering firms, ECBC Cell, and the buildings sector, along with representatives from the Public Words Development (PWD). Discussions included sharing insights on the project’s progress in Haryana and planning and coordinating the identification of buildings for investment. 

During the event, the report on “Buildings Sector Overview for Haryana” was launched. This report provides an in-depth analysis on, the current energy consumption patterns, projected future growth, and the status of ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) implementation in Haryana.

About ALCBT Project

The ALCBT Project is a five-year multi-stakeholder project that aims to facilitate the nationwide transition towards Low Carbon Buildings in five Asian countries namely, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. About HAREDA

The Department of Renewable Energy is responsible for formulating policies and programs necessary for popularizing the applications of various non-conventional and renewable sources of energy in Haryana. It is implementing various schemes concerning the utilization of solar energy, biogas, micro hydel, biomass Energy, etc. The Department is also acting as a State Designated Agency for the implementation of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 in the State for taking full advantage of fiscal and financial incentives made available by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt of India and Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and to give impetus to the process of implementation, State Govt. has set up a new agency called Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) in May 1997. This agency acts as a nodal agency to implement various centrally and state-sponsored schemes/ projects in the state’s renewable energy sector.
