GEORGETOWN, Guyana, May 22, 2026 – The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), in collaboration with the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF) Secretariat, hosted a workshop to build capacity to implement sustainable development projects. This workshop focused on strengthening capacity in data collection, analysis, and reporting among key public-sector stakeholders implementing projects under the Guyana-Norway partnership.  

Through the project, GRIF Management Support Project Phase II, GGGI is supporting the partnership by delivering a series of strategic training sessions, targeting public sector agencies to effectively implement sustainable development and climate-related projects. The training also contributes to enhancing transparency, accountability, and effective governance in project delivery and aligns with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS). 

The one-day training included fifteen (15) technical officers and focal points from key government ministries and agencies that manage and support the delivery of projects funded through the GRIF and Guyana- Norway Partnership agreement.  This training was designed to improve how data is collected, managed, and reported to ensure consistent, high-quality information that supports evidence-based decision-making and effective program oversight. 

Emphasis was placed on standardizing datasets and improving documentation to enhance transparency, coordination, and operational effectiveness across agencies. This supports Guyana in tracking climate action results, informing sustainable development planning, and ensuring that investments deliver measurable benefits for people and the environment. 

Ms. Hansrajie Sukhdeo, GGGI Guyana Program Manager, highlighted the importance of these efforts: “Institutional capacity is climate finance readiness, stating that, by strengthening digital systems and reporting mechanisms, we are helping to reinforce Guyana’s low-carbon development pathway and long-term resilience.” 

Under the Guyana‑Norway partnership, GGGI provides support to the Secretariat, which oversees a GRIF multi‑contributor trust fund that channels result‑based payments into Guyana’s LCDS projects.   Through this structure, the GRIF supported 19 development projects across areas including sustainable land management, forestry, hinterland and community development, adaptation and climate resilience, and renewable energy transition. These initiatives have delivered impactful outcomes, including improved forest monitoring systems, strengthened institutional capacity, enhanced climate resilience in coastal zones, and expanded access to digital services in remote regions.  

As the implementing partner of GRIF Phase II, GGGI plays a role in coordinating with the Secretariat, supporting the Steering Committee and Trustee, and fostering transparent, effective governance to ensure that finance allocated through the GRIF is aligned with Guyana’s LCDS 2030 priorities and delivers sustainable, measurable benefits.
