Green Growth Planning Manual Training Workshop

Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR: On 20th October 2021, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Lao PDR together with the Public Works and Transport Research Institute (PTRI) under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, and Department of Planning and Investment of Vientiane Capital co-hosted a one day training works

hop on Green Growth Planning Manual (GGPM) as part of the activities under the  Wastewater and Solid Waste Treatment Capacity Building Project for City Environment Implementation in Lao PDR with funding support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The workshop provided technical knowledge and know-how on green growth planning process, particularly setting green growth vision, indicators, targets, baseline assessment, prioritizing projects, and actions. Workshop sessions followed key steps set out in the Green Growth Planning Manual developed by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) with technical support from GGGI back in 2020.

The technical workshop was chaired by the Mr. Thanongsin Sengphavong, Deputy Director General of Vientiane Capital Department of Planning and Investment (DPI),  and attended by 13 participants, three of whom are females from line departments of Vientiane Capital. These participants are appointed members of the City Core Team who will lead and support the formulation of the Green City Action Plan (GCAP) for Vientiane Capital.

This workshop was a result of the earlier training workshop on Green Growth, which was organized in mid-September 2021 for relevant stakeholders of Vientiane Capital. This GGPM training aims to equip members of the Core City Team with the planning framework and tools that will be used to develop GCAP for Vientiane Capital. Participants to the workshop expressed their appreciation for this green growth planning workshop as it is very beneficial and resourceful for Vientiane Capital, especially mainstreaming green growth into their development plans.
