KINGSTOWN, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,  June 2026 – The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to advance resilient, sustainable, and affordable housing solutions across the country, particularly providing technical support on strengthening and implementing the country’s National Housing Policy.  

Honourable Andrew John, Minister of Housing, Land Management, Urban Development, and Informal Settlement Upgrading, welcomed the partnership and highlighted its importance to the country’s sustainable development agenda. “This collaboration advances sustainable, resilient, and inclusive housing solutions for citizens in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The review will assess the policy’s readiness for adoption, identify gaps that could affect implementation, and strengthen its readiness for financing. It will also help ensure the policy gives priority to programmes that can be supported through public investment, private-sector participation, and climate finance. GGGI’s technical expertise and innovative approaches will support stronger policies and frameworks that enhance the quality, affordability,and environmental sustainability of housing across St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” Minister John stated.

The initiative forms part of the regional programme, “Scaling-Up Resilient, Green, and Affordable Housing in the Eastern Caribbean,” financed by the Government of Ireland and Agence française de développement (AFD). The programme supports Eastern Caribbean countries in advancing climate-smart housing systems and strengthening resilience within the housing sector.

Rachel Fitzpatrick, SIDS Lead in Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to supporting climate resilience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). “Ireland is delighted to be supporting St. Vincent and the Grenadines to advance green and affordable housing programmes. This support is in line with Ireland’s 2nd Strategy for Partnership with Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which commits to expanding our climate supports in vulnerable countries and regions like the Eastern Caribbean,” Fitzpatrick said.

Daniel Muñoz-Smith, GGGI’s Caribbean Representative, emphasized the significance of the partnership in supporting sustainable development across the region. “This partnership with the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines reflects GGGI’s continued commitment to supporting Small Island Developing States in building inclusive and climate-resilient economies through rigorous policies and by unlocking investment opportunities and supporting sustainable housing solutions that strengthen communities and improve lives,” he noted.

Muñoz-Smith further added that the partnership reinforces Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ commitment to sustainable development and supports the country’s efforts to align national priorities with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Climate Agreement. 

GGGI’s regional programme also provides technical assistance in Saint Lucia and Grenada, supporting efforts to strengthen housing resilience and promote sustainable green growth throughout the Eastern Caribbean.
